CERE is a partner in a selected C4C project titled: “Alternative energy and renewable resources for public and residential building in Abasan Al-Kabira (SUNBUILDING)” in partnership with Abasan Al-Kabira (The Applicant), Life Power Company for Renewable Energy (Hayat Gaza), Geres (a French NGO), The Center of Excellence for Renewable Energy at the Islamic University of Gaza (CERE), and The Renewable Energy Research Center at University College of Applied Sciences (UCAS). The project will be implemented from January 2022 to December 2025.
This project comes within the Climate for Cities (C4C) program to implement the concrete projects included in the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) previously prepared by the municipalities affiliated with the Clima-Med project funded by the European Union and under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Government.
The global objective of C4C is to contribute to sustainable human development by promoting a transition towards greener and climate-resilient cities in the Southern Neighborhood, in line with countries’ commitments under the Paris Agreement, and making optimum use of climate finance instruments.
The overall objective of SUNBUILDING project is to develop renewable energy use in public buildings (e.g. water facilities, schools, clinics etc.), and some residential building in marginalized group and promote energy efficient behaviors while supplying Abasan Al-Kabira with electricity based on solar energy instead of fossil fuels by using the natural solar potential.
The full deployment of the SUNBUILDING project will lead to renewable energy production of more than 9,1 million KWh or 1,200,000 EUR per annum in the whole area.
