The Civil Engineering Department at IUG was established in 1992-1993 with a vision of developing and maintaining a learning community that pursues knowledge and understanding. It also will provide an innovative solution to problems of construction, infrastructures, environment, water and structures. The department is intended to educate students of diverse background to be leaders in private and public sectors and to serve their community in the best way. It aims to promote an active interest in engineering and encourage students to respond to changes and developments within their profession. It provides knowledge and understanding of current theories and developments in civil engineering. Furthermore, it encourages the teamwork, communications, and interpersonal skills to enable them to be productive members of interdisciplinary engineering teams.

In 2002 the department establishes its first MS Program in construction Management and extended it into five MS programs.
